Studying handicraft industry organizations in ancient Japan. Instructor Kajiwara is currently interested in regional roof-tile craftsmen organizations in capital cities or provincial monasteries during the Nara Period, and is concentrating on an analysis of holdovers related to local handicraft industries that tend to be described from the standpoint of centralized governance. He would like to expand his studies to include all types of products, such as clay pots, salt iron and copper, and the restoration of production organizations, which reflect the various research results of Japanese history.
Instructor Kajiwara expects students to actively question in order to gain the skills necessary to logically solve problems and complete a thesis.
