Kimata Motokazu
Professor

Born in 1957. Bachelor's Degree from Nagoya University, School of Letters (1980); Master's Degree from Nagoya University, Graduate School of Letters (1982, Aesthetic Art History); Studied Medieval Archaeology under a French Government Scholarship (1983-87) and obtained Doctoral Degree from Universite de Paris 1 Pantheon-Sorbonne (1987); Participation in Doctoral Program at Nagoya University, Graduate School of Letters (1987, Aesthetic Art History); Assistant (1987), Assistant Professor (1991) and Professor (2003) at Nagoya University, School of Letters; Received the Tsuji Soichi-Anna Miura Scholarship from Rikkyo University (2003).
Researching history of Western medieval and Christian art. Main study subjects include restoration of development process of engraving on Gothic shrine doors, visual story depiction through stained glass, functional logic of Christian arts and semasiology of Christian arts. Professor Kimata is currently interested in reviewing "art" framework and the study of the Gothic visual culture with a wider vision.
Professor Kimata helps students foster the basic skills required of professionals such as educators, researchers or curators with due consideration for a student's desires and circumstances.
