Yoshitake Sumio

Born in 1959. Bachelor's Degree from Kyoto University, Faculty of Letters (1983, Classics); Master's Degree from Kyoto University, Graduate School of Letters (1986, Classics); Research Student at University of Bristol, Faculty of Classics (1988-90); Completion of Doctoral Program at Kyoto University's Graduate School of Letters (1991, Classics); Assistant Professor at Seishu Women's University, Faculty of International Culture (1993); Assistant Professor at Nagoya University, School of Letters (1997); Assistant Professor at Nagoya University, Graduate School of Letters (2000).

Studying ancient Greek/Roman literature and myths and thanatology. Associate Professor Yoshitake is interested in the life-or-death choices in Greek tragedies/myths, the position of women in Western classical literature and the Greek language. His recent research theme is "Kalos Thanatos" in Greek literature.
For graduate school students, Associate Professor Yoshitake attaches importance to flexible discussion of literature, precise understanding and consideration of academic papers as well as the mastering of classical languages.
